Our engagement

Responsibility is part of how we work.

We treat social and ecological responsibility as part of everyday decisions: how we collaborate, how we travel, how we organise work and how we think about digital media.

Ecological responsibility

Our work is largely digital and often home-based. Where practical, we work remotely to avoid unnecessary travel and prefer public transport when we do travel. We use electricity from our own photovoltaic installation, and business events we organise are vegan.

These are practical choices rather than a claim to perfect sustainability. We try to keep the material footprint of our work in view and improve it where we can.

Social responsibility

We intentionally collaborate with neurodivergent people and people from LGBTQ+ communities. We value different ways of thinking, communicating and working, and aim for working relationships built on respect, clarity and room for individual needs.

Responsible digital media

What digital media reward, romanticise or normalise, they also help reproduce.

That idea informs how we approach stories, interfaces and digital projects. Responsible design means considering not only whether something works, but also what kinds of behaviour, expectations and perspectives it may reinforce.

Generative technologies

We prefer to talk about specific technologies rather than “AI”, distinguishing generative systems such as LLMs from predictive and other task-specific machine-learning systems.

We believe these technologies can be useful when their use is regulated, ethically grounded and proportionate. Because computational resources have a material cost, we aim to use them as much as necessary and as little as possible.

We belief that human creativity has value in itself. Where human expression and art’s role as a social corrective are part of the purpose, generative technologies should be used with particular restraint or not at all. Whereas the more instrumental the task, the more appropriate automation may be.
